What an amazing day! Almost 10 years ago, Greg and I were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by an amazing man! Elder Dallin H Oaks was our sealer. He was a good friend to my grandfather and therefore a good friend to my father. Greg and I were in awe of the fact that we would be married by such a wonderful man. We went up before our wedding and had an interview with him. It was such a neat experience...one that Greg and I will NEVER forget. To sit knee to knee with an Apostle and be interviewed was one of the most intimidating but sweetest days of my life. We received some of the greatest advice from him that day, on our wedding day, and then in a letter he sent to us after our wedding. Then and there we determined that our first son would be named after Elder Oaks.. (who informed us that if we were to name our son after him...we needed to spell it right.)
We have waited for the opportunity to go and meet with him again, and since Dallin will soon be eight and we will soon celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, we decided this was a great time to do that. So today was the day and I can't put into words the anticipation and excitement I have felt. I also felt to inadequate to take time from an Apostle. He was so sweet with the boys and I wish I had a picture of him hugging Dallin and picking him up off the floor. He then held his hands out to Alex who ran and jumped into his arms, and then to Colton who did the same. I was worried how my boys would behave but they just loved him. He was so gracious and kind and again, a day I will never forget.
As we were leaving the building I hurried and took Dallin and Alex in to the bathroom and on our way out Alex tripped over Elder Tingey who was standing outside the bathroom door. Greg was out with Colton talking to Sister Dew. She was so cute with my boys and said that she always imagined she would have 6 boys! What a neat lady. On our way out the door, Greg started saying, "Oh my heavens, oh my heavens!" In walked Elder Hales. He walked right to Dallin and said, "Hey, this looks like a future missionary!" He was so kind to us and friendly and wonderful!!

wow! you know your boys will probably NEVER forget that!!! I'm so jealous!!!!!
You should enlarge the picture of Dallin(s) and frame it and hang it in Dallin's room. That is so awesome!
HOLY COW!!! You guys have to have the best luck in the world, no kidding! So did you just call up there and make an appointment with him? What a cool experience. You guys are awesome, you bet Dallin will never forget it. That is truely amazing!!!
What an incredible experience! Wow, so many of the Lord's annointed in one day! You'll have a spiritual high for weeks! I didn't know you were married by Elder Oaks..I don't think I can remember who married us, bad I know.
I wish making an appointment with him was that easy...it only happened one: because of my dad, and two: because he married us!
That is so amazing!!! Forget the red carpet, those are the true celebrities! I would be so star struck I probably make a fool of myself. I think that Dallin's name is so cool. My friend was married by Pres. Faust, she didn't tell anyone. I was pregnant, and when he came in the room I almost passed out. What an awesome experience for your boys!
What an amazing experience. How lucky to be able to make an appointment with him and meet with him. I wish that I could have an opportunity like that. What great moments to remember and cherish.
Wow! How very neat for your family!
That is the greatest thing I have ever heard! That is just awesome Bec!! The pic of the two Dallins is priceless. Seriously. I am almost ready to blow it up and put it in my house! :) They even kinda look alike. Both just glowing. Little Dallin looks like a missionary for sure. And what a perfect one he will be. Especailly having two such amazing parents!! Gosh, I just love you guys. Will you please put in a good word with the big man upstairs for me. You guys I think have a direct connection, and heaven knows I need all the help I can get. :)
That is awesome! I love that man. I got to go meet with him when Derrik and Meagan had their interview. Yes, mom had to tag along.
I think of my dad every time I see him. You know people use to think your dad was Elder oaks cause he looked so much like him.
Wow, what a great experience for you and your family.
That is certinly something that you will remember forever and probably Dallin also. I too have met Dallin H. Oaks when he set apart my dad as Stake Pres. 8 yrs ago. Sydney was a baby and I was holding her when I met him, he looked down at her and then at me and said "God has just given you a precious gift. I hope you will always remember that." Well being that I had just had a baby and my hormones were thru the roof you can imagine what kind of reaction I had to that. I really remember how genuinly sweet and wonderful he was. You are very lucky. That is incredibly neat.
Okay, when I was looking at these pictures again, I had a total flashback memory. It was a time Elder Oaks was at our home, either Utah or Norway and we were taking pictures. I remember him saying to help have a good smile in a picture you pretend to smell a rose. Sniff in and then smile. When I was looking at him I thought, hmmm, I wonder if he was smelling roses before that great smile in your picture.
that is the coolest! I am so glad that you had that experience! wonderful wonderful!
What a neat day for all of you and what a neat name to have! I love the picture...priceless!
What a neat thing to do. I'm sure Dallin will remember it forever! He's such a sweet boy:)
What a neat experience for your whole family, and especially for Dallin. That is honestly the coolest thing to get to do. I know that you will all remember that forever!
